Q: When did you join the Inpute team?
A: I joined Inpute in October 2019.
Q: Was the graduate program what you expected?
A: Yes, it was better than what I expected. At the start. management set out a detailed plan for the year ahead showing expected responsibilities and learnings on a weekly and monthly basis. This plan was constantly referred back to during meetings with my line manager and provided a great structure to the programme.
Q: Can you give me a summary of your role now and how it’s changed over time?
A: At the start, we got a taste of two main areas; software development and professional services. I really enjoyed both aspects. I like the mix and I was lucky enough to be able to continue to do both in my role. As you progress through the programme, you can choose to specialise in one aspect. I chose to continue working in both areas and I’ve developed my skillset over time.
Q: What has been the most rewarding project you’ve worked on?
A: Probably, the recent e-signature project that I developed with a colleague. It’s great to see that it’s being used, working well and it’s practical.
Q: What’s been your biggest challenge in your role since graduating and how did you overcome it?
A: The transition to working from home during Covid. Mainly because you don’t have the colleague interaction you would have had initially. In the office, if you have a question you can just go up to someone’s desk and ask them or call across the office. So, it was definitely a transition. Working from home does have its benefits and the use of Microsoft Teams has helped to overcome that communication issue.
Q. What advice would you give to those who are interested in pursuing a career with Inpute or the graduate program?
A: I would say to be open minded. When I first joined, I thought I was going to go straight into software development, but that changed once I saw the other side of it like professional services. I just thought I was going to be coding all day, but I actually really enjoy doing both sides which I didn’t expect. I’d also keep in mind that Inpute is very unique so I wouldn’t come in and expect to know everything about the solutions. A lot of things must be learned within the company and there will be a lot of technical stuff which you couldn’t learn outside of it. You will get good support from the Inpute team to help you get up the learning curve.
Q: Describe Inpute in 3 Words?
A: Accommodating, supportive and unique.
Q: Tell me a bit about the company culture at Inpute?
A: It is a very supportive environment between the senior developers and graduates. Everyone is there to help each other, and you can always go to a senior developer with a question. I have found that the team in Inpute is always willing to talk through problems and to help.
